We do it properly — cut out, refasten, retape, re-texture — so it does not reopen the following summer.

Yes, and it is worth fixing properly. New frames move for the first one to two years, which opens seams along ceiling lines and pops nails. A cosmetic skim over the crack will reopen. We cut out the failed tape, refasten the board, retape and re-texture so the repair holds.
They have far more inside and outside corners than a flat ceiling, and every corner is a joint that moves. In fast-built houses those corners are often taped thin. They are very repairable — the fix is proper corner treatment and a re-texture that matches the surrounding field.
Yes, and it is common here. Builders finish to Level 4, which shows seams and screw lines on big great-room walls under raking light or dark paint. We skim-coat the surface after move-in; rooms are masked off and worked one at a time so the house stays livable.
